Projects On US 70 Start Next Week
8/14/2009
The Arizona Department of Transportation will begin a project on Aug. 20th, to improve two intersections on US 70 approx. six miles east of Globe. The intersections are east and west of the Apache Gold Casino at the junction of US 70 and the old Winkelman Highway and at US 70 and BIA Route 6.
The project includes roadway widening, slope flattening, drainage improvement, guardrail replacement and other work.
Preliminary work will begin on Aug. 20th, with survey and traffic control setup at the old Winkelman Highway. Roadway excavation is scheduled to begin by end of August. Work at BIA Route 6 will begin after completion of the improvements at the old Winkelman Highway. Construction is scheduled for completion in mid-November.
Work is scheduled from 6 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Thursday. There will be lane closures, and drivers should anticipate delays of up to 15 minutes. Law enforcement personnel will be on site to monitor traffic speeds and flow through the work zones.
While ADOT strives to inform the public about planned roadway restrictions, during any construction project, there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Visit az511.com or call 5-1-1 for the most current information about planned restrictions in the area.
