Massive Improvement Project On SR 87

September 28th, 2012

An improvement project along State Route 87 is set to start the week of Oct. 1st. The completion date of this project is expected to occur the week of May 10th, 2013. Of course, weather can alter the schedule. The project will get underway beginning slightly west of the intersection with SR 287 and go north to Hunt Highway near Arizona Ave.

Crews will be busy adding and widening shoulders, repaving the highway, installing signs, adding and extending turn lanes at intersections, making intersection improvements amongst the many they have planned.

This improvement project is coming at a cost of $8.5 million & was developed in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration and the Gila River Indian Community Department of Transportation.

ADOT, the Gila River Indian Community Department of Transportation, San Carlos Irrigation and Drainage District, & Pima-Maricopa Irrigation Project are working together to coordinate schedules for the construction activities along SR 87.
