Pinal County Assessor’s Office Makes It Easier For Permanently Disabled Residents To Maintain Their Property Tax Exemption Status

January 16th, 2013

To make it easier for permanently disabled residents in Pinal County with a property tax exemption, Pinal County Assessor Douglas Wolf has made a big change to how that is going to be handled. Permanently disabled residents will no longer be required to re-visit their doctor every 3 years to receive the exemption. On the reason behind doing away with this process Wolf stated, “Having to see a doctor just to recreate paperwork that we already have on file was placing an undue burden on the disabled residents of our community.”

This change is also expected to ease the redundancy of paperwork, as well as save time & money. According to Wolf, “It’s a win-win for taxpayers and for those residents who no longer have to visit their doctor to have the same form filled out more than once.”

All residents who are receiving the widow, widower, or disabled exemption are still required by the Assessor’s Office to fill out and return a simple one page affidavit. The Assessor’s Office mailed out those forms last week.

Arizona statute provides for property tax exemptions for certain residents who are widows, widowers, or disabled based on income and other guidelines. If you have any questions about the change in policy or in the exemption process, please call the Assessor’s Office for more information at 520-866-6361.
