KRDE - The Real Story
KRDE started out as a childhood dream
some sixty years ago. In 1987 an FCC application window
opened for a low power, 3 kw Class A* in Globe. After a
year of waiting for a comparative hearing, the first
construction permit was granted. Then began eight years
of upgrade applications and engineering work.
Finally, in October of 1995, the station
went on as KRXS (“K Rocks” 97.3 FM) as a 25 kw C3.* We
all spent a lot of time learning radio and finding a
format that would work in attracting listeners - and, of
course, sponsors.
Another upgrade application was started
in the never ending effort to improve the signal. When
that was granted in 2002, the station became a full
Class C2* from our spectacular transmitter site on Pinal
mountain at 8,000 feet.
In 2005, as requested by the FCC, the
station changed frequency to 94.1. At the same time we
changed our call letters to KRDE (“The Ride”) to reflect
our Country music format. To make 2005 even more
exciting, we moved to our own building at 800 Main
Street here in Globe. What a great improvement!!!
KRDE continues to improve and grow. We
have added a great website, focused on news, to
complement the music we play on the air.
... And, of course, another upgrade to
the signal is in process - and this will be a big one!
