Redmond Fire

UPDATE – 9/5/19: he fire has grown to 800 acres. Officials encourage everybody to “avoid Forest Roads 644 and 223 to allow firefighters to safely work in the area.” Also, “Smoke will continue to be visible through the afternoon as winds increase, and communities in the area may smell smoke as the air settles down drainages at night.”

According to Tonto National Forest officials, the Redmond Fire started Tuesday “near the southern edge of the Salt River Wilderness Area north of Globe.” The lightning-caused fire is roughly 100 acres & 0% contained. The smoke can be seen from State Route 188, US Highway 60, & US Highway 70. No structures are currently under any threat due to the fireOfficials ask, “The public is asked to avoid Forest Roads 644 and 223 to allow firefighters to safely work in the area.  Smoke will continue to be visible through the afternoon as winds increase, and communities in the area may smell smoke as the air settles down drainages at night.”
