Prescribed Burns Scheduled Near Globe

A series of prescribed burn is scheduled to take place at Carol Springs Mountain from Oct. 23rd, through Nov. 17th. Smoke should be expected to effect visibilty of travellers heading north on US 60 up to Show Low from Globe. The crews will stop at 3 pm every day to lessen the smoke on US 60. This is part of the effort “to reduce wildfire risk to people, communities, and natural resources while sustaining and restoring healthy, resilient fire-adapted forests.” Additionally, “The goals of these treatments include improving plant and wildlife habitat to increase biodiversity for wildlife corridors, clean water, and flood control. Prescribed fires also help protect culturally significant native foods and plants, improve timber stands and recreational opportunities, and reduce the threat of invasive species on the landscape.”
