Vehicle Search Leads To Discovery Of Deceased Person

Globe Police Officers were dispatched to the Round Mountain Park’s parking lot over the weekend. The following is what transpired:

“On 2/15/2020 at approximately 2003 hours, the Globe Police Department was notified of a suspicious vehicle parked in the parking lot at Round Mountain Park by agents of the Arizona DPS GIITEM Statewide Gang Task Force. The vehicle was found to be displaying a stolen license plate. Globe Police were summoned to Round Mountain Park for an agency assist and met with the GIITEM agents. A subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted. Based on the search, officers became concerned for the well-being of the vehicle owner.

On 2/16/2020, at first light, personnel from the Globe Police Department, Gila County Sheriff’s Units and their Search and Rescue teams initiated a search of Round Mountain Park including walking trails and adjacent areas to the trails. At 1208 hours, a team with Search and Rescue located the owner of the vehicle within the Round Mountain Park, deceased.

Investigators with the Globe Police Department processed the scene and continue to investigate this incident. All current indications are that the owner of the vehicle hiked to a secluded area of the park and took their own life. The deceased was transported to the Medical Examiner’s office, pending an autopsy. Additional details, including the identity of the victim is being withheld at this time, pending notification of family. The Globe Police Department would like to thank the Gila County Sheriff’s Department and their Search and Rescue teams as well as the Arizona Department of Public Safety, along with both Globe and Tri-City Fire Departments, for all assistance in this matter.”
