Police Scam Returns To Gila County

Per the Gila County Sheriff’s Office: “The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is receiving multiple reports of one or more persons that are claiming to work for the Sheriff’s Office, providing legitimate sounding information including names and badge numbers. These persons are claiming that the person they are speaking with has a warrant out for their arrest, and they need to meet with that person to collect payment for their warrant with cash.

Sheriff J. Adam Shepherd wants you to know that NO Gila County Sheriff’s Office employee will EVER contact you about a warrant asking for a cash payment. The process for dealing with a warrant, if an arrest by a certified peace officer is not involved, involves communication or a transaction with the courts. This would include any kind of fees associated with traffic citations.

Please be vigilant of scams and if you have any questions or doubts, please contact your local law enforcement agency.”
