UPDATE, 8-18-25: Firefighters have made significant progress in containing the fire. It’s at 66%, and 18,000+ acres.

The lightning-caused Bronco Fire has been burning approx. 30 mile NE of San Carlos since Aug. 3rd. The fire is over 18,100 acres with 0% containment. Crews are working on securing the perimeter. Also, “Closures on Fort Apache Tribal Lands: From Amos Wash to Black River. East to the Bonito Creek and Black River confluence. North along Bonito Creek to the Y40 bridge over Bonito Creek. Northwest along Y40 to the Y70/40 junction. Northwest along Y79 to the community of Seven Mile. South to Fort Apache Road. West To Highway 73. Highway 73 back to Amos Wash.

San Carlos Apache Tribal Lands remain in Stage 3 fire restrictions. Campfires are prohibited. No building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, and charcoal fire. Higher elevations (Point of Pines, Hilltop, Route 8, and Seneca) are closed to the public.
