Tonto National Forest Officials are set to conduct pile burns on Feb. 17th. These burns are happening at the Tonto Basin Transfer Station (just north of Punkin Center) and 83 Green Waste Disposal (south of Windy Hill and east of Grapevine), weather permitting, “to help dispose of vegetation material from thinning projects to help protect local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires.” They will have signs out before and after the burns. Also, “Residents may experience smoke during the pile burn in the Tonto Basin area and along SR 188.”
