A 5-mile stretch of SR 288 between Young and Roosevelt Lake is going to be closed on Nov 12th, and 13th. A full closure will be in effect from 7 am to 6 pm each day. The massive amount of rain combined with the burn scar have caused a need for crews to “excavate the roadway and replace the damaged culvert.” The affected mileposts for this work is from mileposts 271 to 276. The Arizona Department of Transportation has suggested the following detour: “To reach the town of Young, northbound SR 288 drivers can take State Route 188 westbound to SR 87, then north through Payson to eastbound SR 260 and then turn at Young Road (milepost 284.7). Due to the roughly 120-mile length of this detour, drivers may want to consider planning travel before 7 a.m. and after 6 p.m. The detour is estimated to add an additional 2.5 hours for trips from SR 188 to the town of Young.”
ADOT also advises, “Schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors. Motorists should allow extra travel time, use caution, be prepared to slow down and merge safely when approaching and traveling through all work zones.”
