UPDATE: “The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for full closures of east- and westbound US 60 between Superior and Miami starting Wednesday, May 15, for blasting operations. The full closures of US 60 will continue, when required, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through November. The closures will be between mileposts 227-243. DETOUR: Eastbound US 60 drivers will use southbound State Route 177 through Winkleman to northbound SR 77. Westbound US 60 drivers will use southbound SR 77 through Winkleman to northbound SR 177. Due to the roughly 75-mile length of this detour, drivers may want to consider planning travel before 9 a.m. and after 2 p.m.

Westbound US 60 from Miami to Magma Mine Road, near milepost 230, will remain open for local traffic only.

Motorist should plan for:
Lane restrictions and speed reductions in the work zone.
A 14-foot vehicle width restriction to be in place. Oversize loads may be accommodated with advance notice.”

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, “A new Queen Creek Bridge will be constructed just to the east of the existing bridge. The existing steel bridge will remain in place and be fenced off following construction of the new bridge. The Waterfall Canyon Bridge, located east of the Queen Creek Tunnel, will be reconstructed in its existing location. Guardrail replacement and other general maintenance work will also be completed within and near the Queen Creek Tunnel.” The projects are supposed to start in early 2024 and finish in 2027.
