A phone scam has reached Gila County involving the Sheriff’s Office. The perpetrator calls saying they are a Deputy from the Gila County Sheriff’s Office, then “informs them they have a warrant for their arrest for failing to appear for a Jury Summons. The Caller then gives instructions to purchase specific prepaid gift cards which will be used to pay the fine and quash the warrant.” Sheriff J. Adam Shepherd wants it known, they “do not call people and let them know there is a warrant for their arrest nor would we ever request anyone to purchase prepaid gift cards to pay fines or fees.” If you get this call or any that sound like it’s probably a scam, you are encouraged to call the Gila County Sheriff’s Office at 928-425-4449 or local police department.
